Little Gems

The Friends of the White River County Park invite you to celebrate Winter Solstice with them, the longest night of the year.
The celebration will include a large bonfire, food, music and great fun for all ages. The event is complimentary; however, a minimum five-dollar donation is greatly appreciated and will help offset costs for the park restoration and native plantings.  Be sure to dress warm, (after all, it will officially be winter) and enjoy the longest night of the year. Park T-Shirts will also be available for ten dollars. 6503 Sheridan Springs Road, Lake Geneva Wi on Friday, December 21st from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The third Sunday of Advent.
The third Sunday of Advent is also called Gaudete Sunday. Gaudete is a Latin word that means “rejoice.” This name is taken from the entrance antiphon for Sunday’s Mass, which is also echoed in today’s second reading from Paul’s letter to the Philippians. Some people mark this Sunday by lighting a pink candle instead of a purple one on their Advent wreath. It is a reminder that the Advent season is a season of joy because our salvation is already at hand. Here is something from the gospel of John to consider during this week: John tells his listeners that they, “cannot rely on their lineage as Israelites because children of Abraham can be raised up from stones. Repentance, rather, must be observable in one’s actions.” In other words, to be a real Christian you must walk the walk not just talk the talk.

The third Advent Sunday at the GSR plot of land. Located at South Lake Shore Drive and Willow Road.

The Geneva Shore Report Christmas Party. The GSR annual Christmas Party will commence December 20th at four p.m. at the GSR offices at 281 Sheridan Springs Road out near the north part of Lake Geneva, not far from where they are building the new motel. The party will include plenty in the way of beverages of all kinds. Chili Jim’s Chili and special recipes concocted to confound those who love the paper for its low flammability point, rather than for its writing. Everyone is invited. Nobody is really expected.

Geneva Shore Report late issue on December 27th.
The GSR will be delivered a day late this Christmas season because of where Christmas falls. Usually, the paper is assembled on Monday, edited, laid out and printed on Tuesday and then distributed on Wednesday. But this year Christmas falls on a Tuesday, and you can see the problem. Either force the staff to work right on through or let them go to enjoy the most wonderful part of this wonderful time of year. You can guess which way the paper is going.
