Little Gems

Let it snow….
The first snow socks Lake Geneva in. It snowed all over and around Geneva Lake on Sunday. It started at about six a.m. in the morning and then continued until early in the night. For those who thought the snows came early to Lake Geneva this year be mindful of the fact that recordable snowfall took place on September 30th back in 1959. In 1947 it snowed latest in the season on May 30th. There was a year when December had no snow at all, and that was 1906. The average December snowfall in Lake Geneva is twenty-nine inches. With this early storm laying down about five inches, Lake Geneva only has about two feet to go.

The Thrift-In’ has a banner first few days.
The new small, but high quality and low price thrift shop, set up in the basement of the Geneva Java building at 252 Center Street, has proven to be extremely popular in its first few days in business. The owner has been kind enough to share actual results. Admittedly, it is the Christmas season, but in only its first week the shop has moved more inventory than most retail shops do in the same time period. It is very good news that retail sales are very good during this classic lull between the departure of an old political governing body and the entrance of a new one.

Thrift Inn Lake Geneva

The Thrif-In’, located in the basement of the 252 Center Street building (right below where the Geneva Java Coffee Shop is) has opened to great success. Sally Nimmow and her husband Bill are there all the time to help you get the holiday shopping done cheaply and in high quality. Go in there and see what they’ve got. You’ll be more than kind of surprised.

No audio reception.
According to credible sources inside the Lake Geneva Police Department, the new BID surveillance cameras, set up to completely eliminate the non-existent vandalism and burglary crime going on in downtown Lake Geneva, will not have audio capability. Of note, there are the cameras set up in London, England that do have audio reception and broadcast capability, and the problems that have come with the use of that data. Lake Geneva will avoid this problem by following Wisconsin State Law that does not allow for audio recording of citizens without a warrant, or the reasonable belief that a crime has been committed by the person being recorded. In London, the most disturbing feature of their surveillance systems, set up at major traffic intersections and some darkened side roads, has been when the police have used the microphones to talk to people. Television shows have used bits of these occurrences to create quite hilarious vignettes about the public’s often hysterical response to high volume orders or warnings coming out of nowhere, to inform or instruct them.
