Little Gems

Harvey Strauss. The cat.
Harvey made it 17 years as an indoor/outdoor cat. The most amazing animal in the many lives of the humans around him. He ran with coyotes in New Mexico, ruled the rocky beach on Bainbridge Island, and then ran with a flock of rabbits and later foxes in Evanston, Illinois. He was a character of extraordinary personality, independent, but possessed of intense tribal loyalty and humorous enjoyment. Yesterday, a photo was coincidentally run of him, taken on Bainbridge, where he was harassing otters, eagles and determined to keep geese off the back lawn. I don’t know why the photo was run with a short article on Facebook yesterday. It was just a strange coincidence.

Harvey was carried to the vet this morning on his last ride, after he was found on South Lake Shore Drive, struck by a car. He passed instantly, which was the only good news. At 17 he was losing his vision and hearing, which probably played a role in his demise, but he simply would not be kept inside. He would only have it both in and out, and would have it no other way. A lot of people connected to the Geneva Shore Report knew, or had heard of Harvey. For those of you in the Lake Geneva area who knew and appreciated him, visit his adventures on line……Harvey the Cat
Maybe he will share wisdom from afar in the future

Harvey the Cat

Harvey. One of the GSR cats, who somehow was able to make himself so valuable that now that he is gone (encounter with a car on South Shore Road) there’s this huge hole he left behind. He is was the morning before he ‘moved on,” so to speak, waiting to be let in for breakfast. Rest easy, intrepid crusading reporter of a cat.
