The good news to think about while winter waits out there just up the road, so to speak.
The tourists are almost gone, what with Indian Summer being just about over. The beach is closed but still open except for services, and the city crew is still taking care of grooming it every few days. It’s colder but not too much colder. New places like the Breakfast House are open and doing just great, while older ones like Speedos and Simple are doing great as well. Coffee at the Summer Moon Coffee shop up by the Pig is doing swell, and prices have not changed at all there in spite of what is happening at so many other places. Parking will be free in a couple of weeks. Winterfest and Christmas are coming soon. Phillips 66 on Broad Street is better than ever after having been damaged in the storm, and they have the best prices on booze and cigarettes in town.
The Mobile station, renewed and redone, has great food and sandwiches, and there is another car wash in town that is inexpensive and very well done. The people in all these places are just terrific. The area of and surrounding Lake Geneva is so special and terrific, and a lot of that is because of the nature of the people who work, rent, own, and stay there to be together and also support and enjoy those coming to temporarily be a part of the culture.
