Lake Geneva kids are heading back to school.
Grades 5  through 9th grade started Tuesday, September 1st, and 4th and 10th through 12th grade start  Wednesday, September 2nd. This is a little out of the ordinary for Lake Geneva students as well as other Walworth County schools. Typically, schools in this area start after Labor Day and after the conclusion of the Walworth County Fair.

Many Walworth County students participate in the fair through 4H and other programs, which are full-time jobs for the kids during the week of the fair. For the families of students who are a part of the fair, and for many who have a longstanding tradition of attending the fair every year, this early start date of school has caused some frustration. Many Walworth County and Wisconsin schools start in early September to meet state-mandated instructional hours, accommodate early fall events, and allow flexibility for weather cancelations and breaks.

 

Today is the day! The 177th Walworth County Fair starts today, September 2nd, through Labor Day, September 7th. The theme this year is “Glitter & Gold”! The fairgrounds will be filled with an abundance of exhibits, exciting concerts, tractor and truck pulls, demolition derby, and so much more. The fair, as always, includes animal barns, carnival rides, games, and so much delicious fair food. Daily Admission for the fair is $13 for adults, $10 for seniors, $8 for kids, and 5and under is free. If you are a regular at the fair and plan on going most days, a season pass is $50 for adults, and $20 for a junior season pass.

The grandstand will have some great performances.

  • Wednesday will be “Rice’s Pro Rodeo” with “Bella Cain”.
  • Thursday, the Truck and Tractor Pulls will entertain the crowd.
  • Friday, “Russel Dickerson” will perform.
  • Saturday, “Lynyrd Skynyrd” will take the stage.
  • Sunday, “Ludacris” will perform before the traditional Demolition Derby!

This is a traditional end-of-summer event for Walworth County residents and so many close to the area. The fair ends on Labor Day, which means the kids go back to school, making it a bittersweet week for families
