Little Gems

The Elkhorn Antique Flea Market.
It’s back…at the Walworth County Fairgrounds Sunday, September 27. Gates are open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., and tickets are $5. When the Elkhorn Flea Market opened in 1982, there were only fifty vendors. This year there will be five hundred at the market.  They will offer an array of products and merchandise to include; furniture, glassware, pottery, linens, and much more. Everyone can also enjoy some really great locally made food from many of the vendors, as they walk around the fairgrounds and search to find a possible next hidden treasure.

The summer of 2020, will probably best be known as the summer of the virus.
Lake Geneva city officials worry about the city budget’s bottom line, as the Riviera Beach, a bit revenue-producing chunk of that budget, was due to open during a pandemic and a state-wide shutdown. The Riviera is a big moneymaker for the city and opened late, and when it did open it was a limited capacity for some time. When the beach did fully open people came out in droves, flocking quickly and directly right to the lake. The extremely warm weather played a role in the heavy participation and increased lake activity, as well as the fact, that people were ready to escape from inside and play outdoors. Many people were tired of being locked down during the shutdown and believed it to be safer outdoors than indoors, in regards to potentially contracting the coronavirus. The beach kiosks were going non-stop every day for most of the season, as lines were a block or more long, at times. The decision was made to change the fee for entering the beach, making it one rate for adults and children alike, to help speed up the processing of money for tickets.  It was a grand success.  The beach, in spite of the virus and the temporary shutdown, made more money than ever before.  Linda Frame, the harbormaster, had a lot to do with that.  She’s just wonderful.
