Living Here

Leases are being renewed for the shops located on the bottom floor of the Riviera Complex.
After all the talk; after all the rumors; after discussion and marginal canceled actions by the plan commission of Lake Geneva, the leases to the small businesses under the Riviera complex are being renewed. Nothing has happened. There is no new construction and apparently no plan. The rumors of a large restaurant complex to be run by Bill Gage, or maybe even Tom Hartz, have fallen upon cold dusty cinders.

Discussion/action regarding the purchase of a shade structure, in the amount of $8,000, to be paid from park impact fees, for placement at the city skateboard park/Dunn Field.
A motion was made by Howell to approve, seconded by Hedlund. Howell noted that the placement of this structure is to help benefit the parents, as they sit and watch their children. The city attorney noted that the impact funds may not be appropriate for this purchase. Skates added that at the time this was discussed, they decided to use the park fees, not the impact fees. City Attorney “Danny-boy” Draper added that the use of park fees would be appropriate for this purchase. The motion carried 8-0. A motion by Howell to withdraw his initial motion was seconded by Hedlund. Motion by Howell to continue this item until such time that the city attorney (Danny-boy) can review to see if the use of park impact fees can be used for this purchase, seconded by Hedlund. This motion carried 8-0. There was more discussion/action regarding the purchase of bleachers, in the amount of $2,400, to be paid from park impact fees for placement at the city skate park/Dunn Field. Motion by Howell to continue this item until the time that Danny-Boy can review to see if the use of park impact fees can be used for this purchase, seconded by Hedlund. The motion carried 8-0.

Really! Seriously! Bleachers and shades for a skateboard park where parents never go? What is this? If you build it they will come? Not bloody likely. Whose cousin is bidding on this project? And where do these ‘fees’ keep appearing from? Strange park fees collected from whom and when? This needs research, and the GSR will be doing just that.

Place of the Week

Hazel's at Baker House Lake Geneva

The famous owner of Hazel’s of Hebron is now at the Baker House serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Portions are large, service is quick, and the food is made from scratch just like Hazel’s grandma use to make, and Hazel does now.
