DANGER, WILL ROBINSON, DANGER!
There was a television series years ago called Lost in Space, and in that show was a robot built, supposedly, to protect the children of adult parent travelers when they landed somewhere on some alien planet. Complete fiction, of course. The robot was programmed to first warn the children. An expression that was uttered to the male child, Will Robinson, was just as you read it in the title of this opinion/editorial. “Danger Will Robinson” became, and remains, an icon of that era, much as “Open the pod bay door” came to characterize the entire much-lauded movie called 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Although the words of the expression are not in and of themselves emotionally loaded, sort of like using the words “General Quarters” aboard a ship of war, which are not emotionally loaded but have come to be considered so over the years of their use. Many elements of the current American voting population can be roughly considered to be like Will Robinson in the series. The robot, like A.I., was conceived of and built to stand in for the children who had too little life experience, training, or even intellect to look out for their own safety when in strange, unknown circumstances and happenstance.
This newspaper comes out on Wednesday, the 28th of October, which leaves only five days between the publication’s circulation and the election itself. These coming five days may be the most dangerous in the country’s danger-filled life, as no such mentally damaged creature, like the current President, has ever been in such a high-threat position before, nor likely to consider using deadly draconian actions to ensure that he is not weakened in power. The Putin information secrets being held as extortion tools by Putin, the Epstein file likely revelations and the blatant and illegal business dealings of the President and his spawn mean that the President cannot risk losing the immense power he has been proven to hold, to the shock, awe, and fear of much of the nation’s population.
If anyone left in this country has any rationality at all, in understanding that many sources and powers will come for this President and his family, they should quickly get rid of such ideas. It is very likely that the President will do almost anything, anything, to remain holding the levers of power he’s not only held but created. Who else would have violated so many laws, told so many lies, and yes, killed so many people, all the while the dead remain silent and mostly unknown?
The children of the USAID program cancelled; hundreds of thousands worldwide are buried in shallow graves. The dead of Venezuela are silent, as those immigrants taken and deserted in strange country cultures know not even the language and have no money whatsoever. The unknown dead. Nobody, not even the press, attempts to find out what happens to those people. They are dead to the world, as are all the civilian casualties of the Iran war. The fact that the dead now number more than were killed in Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, and Afghanistan seems not only beside the point but pointless because there is no news of them, the nature of their death, or their circumstance if still alive. The mass media has been effectively silent regarding all of those things, or, if having knowledge, refusing to show it to the public for fear of endangering themselves by exposing themselves to an extremely powerful source that is wandering around like a much-obeyed but totally adolescent child who should be riding in a short yellow bus instead of Air Force One or Marine Corps One.
Danger Will Robinson does not really describe the depth and potential depth of the wounds that may be inflicted to keep this poor child in his leadership position. The republicans all around him everywhere are frightened to death yet also very happy and relieved to be living, dressing, traveling and being coddled in ways that have never been true before for such functionaries of the government. They are afraid of losing everything the billionaires have given and paid for them. They are afraid of more than the loss of their safety and their families’. They are literally afraid of dying. ‘Danger Will Robinson’ is so apt yet so weak in giving real warning of such danger. Maybe something spewed out mechanically over a submarine klaxon might be more appropriate. The klaxon shouted out “Crush Depth Reached.” What is coming over the course of the next five days has to hold at least one sincere and very deep hope that the ‘football,’ holding the nuclear bombing codes, is somehow kept out of this vitally dangerous child’s hands.
