Winters Free Fishing Weekend is this month. Whether you’re a professional angler or just fish for fun, Saturday and Sunday the 19th and 20th of January starting at 7 am you can fish for free anywhere in Wisconsin’s inland waters, Wisconsin’s side of the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River without a license or trout stamp. Free access to state parks and properties owned by the DNR, and no parking licenses/stickers are required.  All the waters of the state are open; however, all usual regulations are in force.  Other fishing rules may apply, such as limits on the number and size of fish you can keep and any seasons when you must release certain fish species.

Walworth County has several wonderful lakes, streams or ponds to fish right outside your door.  Ice fishing and fishing, in general, is a wonderful activity for both children and adults and is an outing that’s easy to set up and always fun, not to mention the excitement on the children’s faces when they catch a fish. If you are not equipped with fishing gear don’t worry, you can borrow some at many state parks and DNR offices. Contact a Tackle Loaner site at one of several state parks and DNR regional offices to borrow one. Be sure to take precautions and follow all safety rules before venturing out on the ice.

The One of a Kind Unwind.
Last Thursday morning the Visit Lake Geneva board held their monthly meeting. One of the big topics of the meeting was the North Star research and branding. William Ketchum presented the final ideas and thoughts concluded from the research. A few months ago, North Star came to town stayed, played, and got to know the city and the people in it. They also held numerous interviews with business owners, residents, and local media. William Ketchum did a great job summarizing the findings or presenting what he called: “Crystalized Story of Lake Geneva”.

The focal point of it all is relaxing on the lake. The written brand is “The One of a Kind Unwind” and the visual is a nautical rope neatly un-wound next to the beautiful lake. The branding (written and visual) can be elaborated on to encourage families to come to enjoy Lake Geneva, entice companies to hold conferences in one of the several resorts the area has to choose from, as well as host any and all life events. Ketchum’s ideas were well received by the board members and most likely the marketing look of Lake Geneva is going to change in a great way.

Business of the Week

Lake Geneva Chevrolet Buick GMC

Lake Geneva Chevrolet Buick GMC at 715 South Wells Street. This great dealership has donated a $100 for every vehicle sold in the month of December to the Lake Geneva Food Pantry. The four $4,100 check will do a great job of filling the food shelves that are left a bit bare after the holidays. What a great operation!
