Our Place
Winterfest activities start Wednesday, February 3rd starting with the 10th Annual Winterfest Ice Bar at the Baker House.
The Baker House will once again turn their front yard into a winter wonderland with their one-of-a-kind fire and ice bar spanning eight feet. The bar will be carved by award-winning artists from Art Below Zero, who will also be carving the ice sculptures that will be placed throughout downtown. This year, to keep with social distancing and keeping everyone healthy, the Baker House is offering tickets that can be purchased in advance because capacity will be very limited. Tickets can be purchased online at the-baker-house.ticketleap.com. The winter wonderland will also feature specialty cocktails, warm food, indoor warming lounge, and a fire pit with heated cabanas.
The Green Bay Packers lost.
It’s almost heartbreaking to watch such a grandly successful and growing sports season of one win after another come to such an ignominious end. The plays called in by the coaching staff were just awful, or so it appeared to someone like the editor here, of an unprofessional background in the game. Three interceptions against Brady and nothing? Two goal-line stands that could not be converted, by the top offensive force in all of football, into touchdowns? Three dropped balls on third-down plays? Disappointing could not possibly describe the descent of the wildly expressive body of Packer supporters. Now, the cold snow of winter bites deep and long, as the Wisconsin winter has its entry into real winter welcomed by such a depressive gift and the winter of our discontent. The Chiefs will play in the Super Bowl against the Buccaneers, but who really gives one whit of a damn? In the cold country of Wisconsin, now, not a single freezing soul.
More on the Winterfest activities held February 3rd through the 7th.
The snow carving teams have arrived and will be participating in the U.S. National Snow Sculpting Championship in which they will have 72 hours to create their larger-than-life snow sculptures. The Ice Sculpting will take place in the Riviera Plaza and Flat Iron Park. Visitors can also enjoy the second annual ice sculpture walk throughout downtown Lake Geneva which starts on the 5th along with bonfires and s’mores on the beach. Friday, February 5th is also the annual cocoa crawl throughout downtown Lake Geneva where participants will visit different businesses to sample hot chocolate and chocolatey sweet treats. When finished the participants can vote for their favorite treat and claim their goody bag full of fun prizes. Hovercraft rides will also be available from the 5th to the 7th from 10 am to 4 pm with a cost of $25 per person. Reservations can be made at tlswindsled2005@gmail.com.
