Mayor Tom Hartz gave an update at the BID meeting last Monday morning. The new sidewalk ordinance for the businesses of Lake Geneva has passed. The ordinance will offer the businesses a little leeway and space for an inviting personal touch in front of their store-front. Jim and Fred from Lake Geneva’s Building and Zoning Department will be going door to door to make sure everyone is clear on what is allowed and what is not allowed.
The Tree Board met regarding the trees that adorn the sidewalk. The conclusion was the trees should all be the same, and the pear tree is on. The pear tree is fairly easy to maintain and fits the best for a decent amount of time before it outgrows the space the iron sidewalk grate offers. Every five years the trees will need to be removed and replaced due to outgrowing the confined space. Mayor Hartz also gave an update on the Riviera. Work will begin this fall at the Riviera starting with the roof and possibly the window. Which actual materials will be used on the roof has still not been decided. That decision will be made at the next Piers, Harbor, and Lakefront meeting at City Hall on Wednesday, July 17 at 5:30 p.m.
