The Milwaukee Brewers.
The Brewers are at the top of their game this season, and while Milwaukee hasn’t officially clinched a playoff berth yet, it’s coming. The Brewers are sitting at the top of the MLB standings. Milwaukee is in the driver’s seat to not only make the playoffs, but to land a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Not everything is going well, though. The Milwaukee Brewers’ organization was dealt a brutal blow on Saturday night. Brewers No. 2 overall prospect Luis Peña attempted to steal third base and suffered what appeared to be a significant ankle injury and was carted off the field. When Peña has been healthy this season, he has been awesome. That shouldn’t surprise anyone. He’s the No. 21 overall prospect in baseball for a reason. Peña has played in 70 games overall this season and is slashing .296/.380/.415 with a .795 OPS, three home runs, 27 RBIs, 35 stolen bases, 30 walks, 11 doubles, five triples, and 49 runs scored. Plus, he has struck out just 58 times. All in all, he has been excellent. He earned his first promotion to Double-A and is just two steps away from the majors.
The Milwaukee Brewers received a difficult update on one of the organization’s top prospects after Luis Peña suffered fractures in his left fibula. The 19-year-old infielder is currently in a splint and using crutches following the injury. Peña is expected to travel to the Brewers’ spring training complex in Phoenix next week as he begins the rehabilitation process. The setback comes after Peña had already dealt with multiple interruptions during the season, making the latest injury another difficult obstacle in his development. Despite those challenges, Peña remained one of the Brewers’ most productive prospects when he was healthy. Other than injuries, it’s been another magical year for the Brewers.
The Milwaukee Bucks.
With training camp approaching later this month, the Milwaukee Bucks decided to make a move that could bolster their frontcourt depth. After two years in the organization, John Butler Jr. is back with the Bucks. The Bucks signed John Butler Jr. to their team on a training camp deal, and the organization has some familiarity with him. The Milwaukee Bucks have decided to sign center John Butler Jr. as he recently played for Milwaukee on the summer league roster, and appeared in eight games for the Bucks.
In those eight games, he averaged 3.9 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game. His best performance during the showcase came in the last game against the Philadelphia 76ers, where he finished the game with 10 points, two rebounds, two blocks, and one steal while shooting 100% (3-for-3) from the field. With it being a training camp deal, he’ll have a chance to play this preseason and potentially make the roster on a two-way deal.
He will have some players he will compete with to earn a spot on the roster, one of them being Bogoljub Markovic. Markovic was drafted in the second round in 2025 by the Bucks but has yet to see any time in the NBA. Markovic spent the past year developing overseas, but after signing a four-year deal with the franchise, he will look to compete for a roster spot against Butler. For John Butler to make this team, he will likely need to outproduce Markovic. Another big man on the Bucks roster who will be looking for more playing time is Ousmane Dieng. Dieng was the 11th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, and he could be looking at an opportunity to become a focal point with the Bucks. Overall, Milwaukee is a team with some solid frontcourt depth because of their mix of youth and overall stability at the position. Still, John Butler could impress and keep himself on the roster for the season.
The Green Bay Packers.
The Packers’ season is going to be a little different than usual this year. Most NFL seasons can be divided into quarters, or before and after the bye. However, there aren’t significant roster changes at those points. Green Bay will have one that will change the entire team–pre–Micah and when Micah Parsons returns. The team’s process and the quality of the roster will be completely different before and after. Parsons is out for at least the first four games. Three of four games on the road are tough, but none will be against last season’s playoff teams.
In the first three games, Green Bay will be diving into a bit of an unknown. The Vikings and Jets have new QBs, and the Falcons have a new head coach and potentially a new QB. That could be good or bad for the Packers. Hopefully they can come out of those three games 3-0. Green Bay will likely have to win games with offense until Parsons returns. A lot of that will depend on the quality of the offensive line play. Green Bay’s O-line is one of the more questionable units on the team. Green Bay’s offensive line isn’t going to be awesome immediately.
Still, if it’s good enough to let the offense open up early and continue improving every game, it will be a successful start. On defense, it’s going to be about the corners and pass rush. Can the pass rush be good enough until Parsons returns, and can the corners hold up long enough to let them get home? Much like the offensive line, the defense will be about just being good enough and getting better. Ultimately, if the Packers have a winning record without Parsons, it will have been a positive start to the season.
