Surprising Stuff

The projected population growth for the City of Lake Geneva, as described in the comprehensive plan prepared by Vandewalle & Associates, is a bit unreal.
The problem is not with the math.  No, it’s with the assumptions on which the math is based. Vandewalle assumed that the forces controlling growth in the past are the same as those of today and then projected on into the future. Vandewalle ignored the human element of who and why people come to live in the City of Lake Geneva and how that motivation has changed over the history of the city and the other communities around the lake. The planners made the same mistake in Lake Geneva’s original comprehensive plan, and they have repeated their error again in 2019 for the required ten-year update. That is why in 2008 the population was stated as 7,651 and projected to be 8,436 in 2015, but in reality, the population of the city shows a real increase over that time of only 115 people.  What happened to the other 670?  They disappeared into a fog of bad assumptions.

Welcome 2020!
New Year’s Day is less than a week away and many will be celebrating. All the resorts and restaurants will be celebrating and offering great food and drink in the participation of the festivities, and of course, many will be celebrating at home with the same. If you were thinking of welcoming in 2020 at the Williams Bay Polar Plunge, it is not scheduled to take place this year. It may be because of the warm weather and expected to continue, or possibly not just enough people showed interest. Either way, it is sure to be a great year. Be safe and Happy New Year!

The holiday season is all about giving a little more, being a little more grateful, and hugging a lot more.
Dieter Sturm, Lake Geneva’s very own Hollywood special effects guy, and snowmaker organized a group of wonderful friends and helpers, including Santa and an elf to spread some holiday cheer. On Christmas Eve morning, the crew loaded up the snowmaking equipment and goodies and set out to create a White Christmas for five lucky and deserving families in Walworth County. The giving this group of good people displayed was heartwarming, and the receiving families were overwhelmingly grateful (as well as the envy of everyone on the block), and hugs were shared by all.

Making Joy!
