SURPRISING STUFF

Why does this have to be anonymous?

An anonymous donor has come forward with five million dollars for Hillmoor. Last year, after spending time with the mayor and Hillmoor commission, a donor came forward with a donation for Zone 1 of Hillmoor. They discussed relocating the dog park along with adding and fixing the trails. The original donation was one hundred thousand dollars, but then another donor was interested, and now between them the amount has gone up to five million. The donation will be matched dollar for dollar, and the park must be completed in five years.

Five million is the max, but it will be matched if the city raises less. The gift is for capital purposes only and is restricted to Zone 1 only. All operation and maintenance costs will be the responsibility of the city. The donor expects to have an equal voice in the decisions that will shape the park and have naming rights to the park. The donor also has the right to stay anonymous. The city voted last Monday, and the motion passed to accept the letter of intent to accept the donation.

“The donor expects to have an equal voice in the decisions and naming rights” is part of the secret agreement.

Supposedly, there are two donors.  This is starting to reek, and no, the GSR will not stop until we are satisfied that there is not more to this.  Has this got something to do with approving the Peller development?  Having thoughts like this about the city’s leadership is not healthy and makes our editorial staff nervous.  Nobody on the council knows anything.  They voted in the blind.  Only the mayor who presented knows who these supposed donors are.
