SURPRISING STUFF
A boating fatality on Geneva Lake this past weekend was unexpected and sad.
On Saturday morning, the Geneva Lake Police responded to a boating crash. On arrival, they were met by the Lake Geneva Law Enforcement, Linn Police Fire and Rescue, and Lake Geneva Fire and Rescue, who also responded to the call. The scene revealed that two boats had collided, and serious injuries had occurred. The location of the crash was in the Town of Linn in the middle area of the lake, just east of Cedar Point. The boats involved in the crash were a 16-foot Sylvan with three passengers aboard (fishermen) and a 25-foot Skeeter, with two passengers on board. The Skeeter struck the Sylvan in a T-bone manner at what the police on site thought to be about 35 miles per hour (the legal limit).
The two adult males on the Skeeter were not injured. Lifesaving efforts began at once for one of the passengers of the Sylvan, which were unsuccessful, and he succumbed to his injuries before being transported. The other two Sylvan passengers were transported to Mercy Walworth for treatment. The Wisconsin DNR is leading the investigation, with assistance from the Geneva Lake Police. The big question is how do two boats crash into each other on a clear fall morning, and with very little activity on the lake? Alcohol is a factor in a lot of the boating accidents on the lake but does not appear to have been an issue with this fatal crash. The investigation into what happened, in detail, will continue with the DNR heading up that investigation.
