THE BRIGHT SIDE

The BID (Business Improvement District) takes a return from the Lake Geneva City Council.
The return wasn’t in the form of a lob, to use a tennis term, no, it was more in the form of a smashing serve.  How is the BID, when it comes to the forensic audit they requested, going to handle the matter?  The city holds the money for the bid and the city treasurer signs the checks when presented with requisitions from the BID.  Now, with regularities suspected of having occurred by the former BID board members, the current BID board members are trying to figure out what happened with its finances in the recent past.  However, the city indicates that it only signs checks and does not have anything to do with who is paid or how much.

The BID indicates that the city has fiduciary responsibility for paying the money out and explaining what was paid to whom and when.  The whole things resemble an old Bing Crosby/Bob Hope road movie.  When confronted with the authorities both characters would start a fight among themselves to the point where settling the fight overcame the original issue the authorities were called in to investigate.  The next BID meeting is going to be extremely interesting because city council person Hedlund refused to allow the council to pay the $15,000, or so, to pay for the audit.  The BID doesn’t have that kind of money.  What now?

VISIT Lake Geneva is once again collecting items for the Big Bundle Up campaign.
The Visitor’s Center, located at 201 Wrigley Drive, will serve as the drop-off site where residents can donate new or gently used coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, boots, and other warm-weather clothing items for kids and adults alike. Items can be dropped off from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and those things will be donated to the Walworth County Food and Diaper Bank, which also supplies food, diapers, and supplies to those in need. This is the tenth year for the campaign, with over 200,000 items being collected by visitor bureaus, chambers of commerce, and Travel Wisconsin Travel Centers throughout the state. Items can be dropped off at the Visitor’s Center through January 7th.
