The Bright Side

Winterfest 2019.
Winterfest and the US National Snow Sculpting Competition 2019 begins this Saturday, January 26th, and goes through Sunday, February 3rd. The actual snow sculpting for the US National Snow Sculpting Competition begins a week from today, on Wednesday, January 30th. The mounds of snow will be delivered, some by mother nature and the rest from local resorts. The forms for the sculptures will be filled to create the large blocks of snow that the snow stompers pack, and then the sculpting begins. The snow sculpting teams have competed and qualified to be a part of this completion, and come from all over the country. The sculpting will continue over the course of the next few days, and some teams will work through the night to finish in time for the judging. The sculptors have until 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2nd, to complete their art. The winners will be announced on Sunday, February 3rd at 3 p.m.

Winterfest kicks off with the Hovercraft Experience on Saturday, January 26th from noon until 2 p.m. There will be a meet and greet at the boat launch on Wrigley Drive. The Lake Geneva Hovercraft Challenge will start at 2 p.m., and the World Speed record attempt for a hovercraft will be conducted between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Viewing of the event will be on Wrigley Drive and tickets will be available at the event. Adult tickets sell for $20.00 and children’s tickets will be $15.00.

Another great event is the Human Dog Sled Race, a favorite fun event for all. Friends and Families gather in groups of six to make up a sled team and come out to compete. The participants get very creative with their team names and themed costumes. The event will be at the Grand Geneva Mountain Top Chalet on Sunday, January 27th, from 1 p.m. through 4 p.m. This race is pure fun for the participants as well as for the spectators.
