THE BRIGHT SIDE

The Pier is dead.
The DNR is basically making it impossible for him to qualify to apply for a conditional use permit so that the 26th July hearing at the Town of Linn is canceled.  The DNR will not let Mr. Hogan have a country club, no matter how small.  It won’t allow him to build his small sports arenas nor even put single-family dwellings on the lots adjacent to the portion zoned for business.  That property is zoned, the three half-acre parcels adjoining the business, R-1 residential but the lots are too small (by about 4 feet on a side) to qualify to have houses on.

Mr. Hogan might build one home there.  The financial side of the picture, gaining any kind of revenue from using the property, therefore goes out the proverbial window.  All Mr. Hogan has left is the ability to sue the Town of Linn, as all other doors have been closed to him.  The majority of people, living residentially down by where the Pier was to open, democratically got their way.  Democracy, however, does not mean the majority is always either right or doing good.

The truly rotten road work of our times.
What is it about road crews today?  A crew closes the entire length of the highway between Lake Geneva and Kenosha, the road that is the direct link of the area to the main outside world.  That’s twenty-seven miles of road.  Reduced to one lane each way.  How much of the road was being worked on at one time?  About a half a mile.  Five machines and about the same number of workers visible.  Why the whole road?  From Lake Geneva, headed south down to Richmond, Illinois, just across the state line, is only nine miles.  Highway 12.  Closed down to one lane each way along the entire length for the rest of the summer.

Once again, four pieces of equipment, only one running, and three workers visible, along a stretch that is no more than a mile in length. What’s wrong with America?  Cheating, lying, and profound lack of respect for the public paying the bills and enduring the pain.  What good ‘road’ thing happened this week?  Lake Geneva’s terrific mayor, Charlene Klein, was reached by Eric, the front Maître d’ at Speedos on Wrigley where it turns into Broad Street, about the many cars turning left at the no left turn corner there.  Instantly, concrete bases and signs were extended out from that corner.  No more problem.  Thank you, Eric, and Charlene.  Some things are still being done right.

Traffic Problems?

Traffic Barriers

New barrier to prevent illegal left turns onto Broad St. from Wrigley Dr. Hopefully this will prevent accidents in an already busy area.
