The Bright Side

Lake Geneva’s annual Columbus Day Oktoberfest tradition is back.
Oktoberfest will be Saturday, October 12th and Sunday, October 13th, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The activities will expand onto Geneva Street, with the only activity in Flat Iron Park being Knockerball’s. There will also be a new vendor, the Milwaukee Pretzel Company, offering authentic fresh made Bavarian pretzels. Saturday afternoon, in the alley behind Champ’s, there will be a free pumpkin giveaway of over 400 hundred pumpkins to children 12 years and younger. Family-friendly events will include bouncy houses, pony rides, a strolling balloon artist, live entertainment, craft fair, and great food. This year the beer tent will be in front of the brewery. The brewery was hoping to be open in time for the festivities, although it is running slightly behind schedule. All the children’s activities will be at the opposite end of the festival, and in one area to make it easier for families with little ones. The shuttle will be running with free stops at the Home Depot and US Bank parking lots. The shuttles run continuously every 20 minutes. This is the second-largest activity put on in Lake Geneva, right behind Winterfest. So go out and take advantage of the fall weather and downtown Lake Geneva.

This week is homecoming week for Lake Geneva.
This year’s theme is Home Sweet Home. The schools enjoy spirit week and each day is a different play on that theme and all students are encouraged to dress up. The Badger Homecoming Parade will be on Friday, October 11th, at 4:30 p.m. The Badgers will then host Delavan/Darien for the big Homecoming football game at 7 p.m. Fireworks will be the finale at the conclusion of the game around 9:15 p.m.

Person of the Week

Kenneth Dillingham Delavan

Kenneth Dillingham has recently retired from the Lake Geneva Post Office. Ken was always good for a smile and some great banter. He is missed there but can be found every Sunday at the Wayman Chapel in Delavan were he pastors.
