The 64th Annual Venetian Festival opens Wednesday, August 19th, and runs through August 23rd.
The festival will highlight America’s 250th and bring all the fun and energy its patrons have come to expect. The festival includes live music, carnival rides and games, fair food, a beer tent, and much more. There is a great lineup of live music at the beer tent and stage, as always. The weekend will include the fabulous Art and Craft Fair in Library Park with approximately 75 exhibitors. Sunday has a lot of great fun in store, along with the fun at the festival, including the grand finale fireworks show.
The Venetian Fest and Carnival is fun for the whole family. There is something for everyone during this five-day event, from great rides, fun games, delicious food, and live entertainment. Don’t miss out on Lake Geneva’s biggest celebration of summer.
Friday night ends with a car driving into Como Lake.
A white car traveling through Lake Geneva, driving around 70 mph, was trying to evade police. Sparks were coming from underneath the car as they drove towards Como with the police right behind them. The vehicle failed to stop and proceeded the wrong way on a one-way street. The driver then accelerated to a high rate of speed and disregarded numerous traffic signs while fleeing from officers.
The vehicle continued into the Town of Geneva, where the pursuit ultimately ended when the vehicle entered Lake Como via the boat launch on Schofield Drive. The vehicle traveled approximately 100 feet into the lake. All four occupants were able to exit the vehicle and swim toward a nearby pier, where officers assisted them out of the water. Emergency medical services responded to the scene and evaluated all four occupants.
Two individuals were transported to a hospital for medical treatment, while two others declined further medical treatment and voluntarily signed off with EMS. Town of Geneva Police Chief Anthony Miceli said the Town of Geneva police assisted with the vehicle’s recovery and helped all four occupants reach shore. There were no major injuries, but two passengers were taken to local hospitals, Miceli said. He said Lake Geneva police arrested the driver. Miceli said the Lake Geneva Police Department initiated and is handling the incident.
