LITTLE GEMS
Both hospitals that serve Walworth County (Mercy and Lakeland) are filled to the maximum with Covid patients.
Almost all of those patients are unvaccinated or anti-vaxxers. Around 63 percent of the nation’s population has gotten the second shot, but not in Walworth County. The more conservative (politically) a county is it seems to indicate just how many or few people are getting the shots.
That the shots have demonstrated their effectiveness in those who take them is no longer in the least bit deniable. That politics can somehow have a place in people thinking they can’t get, avoid, or believe some hocus pocus in staying healthy ludicrous, but that’s what’s going on in Walworth County. Some of the anti-maskers who flooded the last school board meeting at Badger High School said stuff like: “My children have the right to be exposed to the virus so they can catch it, get well and then be immune.” “My child needs oxygen to think clearly, and you can’t get enough oxygen when wearing a mask.” “You can’t tell me what my children should or should not wear.”
These comments sound like they are coming from vapidly stupid people, but in actuality, they are more or less transmitted through them by very conservative media sources. We all have the right to die. Cultures have pretty much given up on stopping people who really want to commit suicide. Cultures across the planet do spend a lot of time and money trying to make sure that people do not kill other people, however.
Those who will not vaccinate or wear a mask under certain circumstances (like the kids who can’t get the shots yet) are exercising their right to die in a way and there’s not much that can be done about that. They do not need to be hurting or killing their own children, however, because they bought into some unscientific and truly laughable belief systems taught to them by people making billions doing so.
Person of the Week

Lake Geneva is lucky to have such a great harbor master. Steve Russell is a good guy and does his job well. Make sure to wave and say hello as he is out and about around the lake everyday!
While we’ve visited Lake Geneva and surrounding lake communities for several generations, only this past week did we bother to grab a copy of the Geneva Shore Report. While the article about Seth Tost was terrific, the Small Gems article regarding the current state of Walworth County vaccinations was pointless, nothing but condescending and ill-informed opinion. Even the attempt to quote facts — “around 63 percent of the nation’s population has gotten the second shot” — is disinformation. (As of 9/26/2021 6 a.m. ET, the CDC website shows 55.3% as fully vaccinated — not “around 63 percent”.) The remainder of the article was no better, being nothing more than opinionated disinformation disguised as authoritative fact-based comments, aka, Fake News.
As your flyer continues its quest to “take on those not seemingly so well intended,” please consider doing journalistic research and then provide the facts to your readers so that they can form their own opinions. Otherwise, it is merely narrative that spews only your opinions. Or at least for the benefit of your readers, please consider renaming Small Gems to “Small Gems, an Op/Ed.” At least then it would be truth in advertising. (By the way, the website refers to Small Gems as Little Gems. So if it is supposed to be Little Gems, then likewise you should consider renaming it to “Little Gems, an Op/Ed.”)
Thank you for your input and suggestions
You know what the largest groups of unvaccinated people are? Here’s a hint, they are not Republican or conservative. Maybe try a little research instead of following the dumb party lines.
