OUR PLACE

The ‘Realtor From Heaven,” Sal Dimiceli, goes to work in praying for a gift from God.
What gift is he seeking from the Almighty? He sold his first-floor realtor space to a woman who wants to (supposedly) open a restaurant right across the street from Speedo’s Harborside Grill, just to the north of the Riviera Pier Complex. He sold it to her for $800,000.00. Sal is going straight to the board that governs the rules and codicils of conduct for the entire building. He must get the rule against restaurants coming into the complex changed. By the way, if that rule was modified or changed, then that woman would hold title to a property that would suddenly become much more valuable. Speed’s Harborside is for sale on the Internet for a quite amazing sum (over four million dollars). There’s no question that the space would be almost as prime as Speedo’s is, and in fact, is about the same size. The woman is not going to be happy if she’s denied what was ‘promised’ to her. Can Dimiceli pull off a miracle or not? If he does not, then will legal action on this corner piece of prime property become a matter of local reality?

The Lake Geneva buoy and boat slip rate for 2022 has been under review and the need (or not) to increase the rental rate is in question.
The West End Pier slip renters are not happy with the current rates and feel they are being targeted above other slip renters in Lake Geneva. They feel they pay enough. The idea that the west end renters are being targeted is not totally the case, as all the buoy and slip renters (resident and non-resident) are included. The piers, harbor, and lakefront committee approved the increase, however, the finance, license, and regulation committee approved it, and, finally, the rate increase recommendations were sent to the council.

The public wanted to know why the slip and buoy rates needed to be increased and those interested want some justification. The commenters on the issue at meetings understand a cost-of-living increase, or a slight increase due to inflation. The public has, however, shared its concern as to why the renters at the west end pier were the only ones being hit with the rate increase. Some of the council members would also like to have written justification about why the increase is valid. The harbor master spoke about the issue, and reassured the public that all renters are included, and that the increase is validated due to the cost of living and inflation (the overall inflation rate is calculated to be 5.6% this year). The money collected by the city from the renters goes into an account and is used to maintain all buoy, slips, and piers. The increases were of 5% for residents, 10% for non-residents, and 5% for the newly acquired premium Riviera slips, due to the fact that they are already at a higher rate that the others and have only been in the cities possession for one season.

In the very near future the nearby lagoon is going to need a complete redo, and that will be a pricey project. The city council met on Monday night to vote on the issue with the recommendation of the piers, harbor, and lakefront committee to approve. Of course, the harbor master provided written data showing the need for the increase and the vote results at council may prove the validity of his presented data.  The rate increase passed by a vote of 5-2.
