Surprising Stuff

What’s fair about what’s going on with the ‘outside advertising’ ordinance enforcement?
Some of the businesses that were cited for having unauthorized flags, banners, windsocks and other items for sale items pled not guilty to the citations that were given.  All of them wanted to appeal their cases based upon the fairness doctrine.  Other businesses, which were also violating the ordinance, were not cited, warned, nor in any way interfered with, and many continue to have their mercantile items for sale on sidewalks, or other property just outside their front doors.

Dan Draper, Lake Geneva’s city attorney, gave these people no chance to be heard in court. Their cases were dismissed without fine or penalty but were warned not to violate again.  There are at least six businesses that were given a pass on this ordinance, which continues to this day, including the Kite Lady and Bob from the Beach Shack.  The Geneva Shore Report will not report the names of those businesses in this issue, but if they continue enjoying the most favored (and unfair) practice of leaving their stuff outside when other businesses are denied that privilege then the GSR will proceed to publish.
