A kayaker drowned in Lake Ivanhoe on June 25, according to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office. He was identified Monday as 64-year-old Thomas J. Sater of Kenosha County. The sheriff’s office said it received reports about a kayak floating in the middle of the lake just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday. It was not clear at this time if the kayak was abandoned.
When deputies and officers from the Bloomfield Police Department arrived, they spotted a kayak upside down 150 yards offshore, the sheriff’s office said. They were also able to determine that a male was floating next to it, wearing a life jacket. He did not respond to deputies, and they later determined that he was unconscious. Lyons Fire and Rescue was dispatched for a water rescue. The town of Delevan Air Boat was launched to recover the male, but he was pronounced dead at 4:53 p.m. The sheriff’s office said it is still investigating the drowning.
