Dunkin’ Donuts is now certain to open.
Several months ago, Neil, the owner of the Mobil gas station in Delavan, closed on the ownership of a stretch of property located at 190 East Main Street in Lake Geneva Wi. Located just across from Hillmoor (most people think of this part of Main Street as Highway 50), and next to the Interstate Insurance building. In January of 2018, at the last minute, Neil tabled his conditional use plan request for the building of a Dunkin´ Donuts Shop, convenience store, and Mobil gas station. This past Monday, on May 21st, at the next planning commission meeting, Neil, was once again scheduled to present his plans for the Lake Geneva Plaza LLC, to the planning commission. This would be the tenth gas station in Lake Geneva.
The GSR X-file investigators spoke with many residents who seem to welcome the idea of a Dunkin´ Donuts Shop but were not thrilled about another gas station coming to town. Some citizens have stated that “it will not be aesthetically pleasing to residents who live nearby or for tourists entering into the city limits off of Highway 12 or from the East on 50.” One resident said, “I can’t speak for every resident, but I think Lake Geneva has many empty storefronts and spaces that a Dunkin’ Donuts would fit in nicely, for example, near Starbucks, or between Noodles & Company and Qdoba just to mention two.”
The GSR encourages Lake Geneva citizens and residents to attend the local government meetings in order that every decision made always includes any group of people who may be dissatisfied with the outcome. Many citizens did come to the plan commission meeting last Monday night. That commission, by a vote of three to two, approved the new complex, to be called the Dunkin’ Donuts Plaza. Mr. Skates, of course, led the charge to get the plan approved. Now the whole thing must go before the City Council.
