The Bright Side
“We’ll leave a light on for you…”
Tom Bodett spoke that phrase in an ad for Motel Six many years ago, and the ad-libbed line became an instant hit. The Candle Mercantile Store on Main Street is in the Motel Six situation, but a bit different. It has benefited by a great city-sponsored and allowed banner campaign (allowed to no other business located in the city) and it has benefited from wisely during the peak of summer with some of the best weather in Lake Geneva’s recent history. But what of the winter coming? Has the candle store prepared for the fact that ‘we’ll leave the light on for you,’ might be a great phrase for motel advertising success but will it transfer over into success, for a business that really does leave a light on for you…or for anybody else exposed to the wonderfully custom candles they help the customer to make.
Will Lake Geneva’s winter resident population take to these really terrific but kinda pricey ‘lights?’ That’s what the Mercantile is going to find out. Personally, the staff of the GSR is going to have a flock of these terrific candles at the office…and they will be lit well before, into and following the Christmas holiday.
