The Bright Side

Colors of the Riviera…
in regards to the doors, windows, and columns. This is the latest set of Riviera decisions that need to be made. The Piers, Harbor, and Lakefront meeting last week (which was held in the Riviera ballroom) discussed the replacement of the windows that will occur in the upcoming months. The scaffolding will be placed on the east, west, and south sides of the Riviera.  The first part of the installation will begin in January 2020, and the north side scaffolding will be placed immediately following Winterfest. The roof replacement and tuck-pointing will begin at that time, as well. Window and door replacement will follow in rapid succession.

The current aluminum windows will all be replaced, changing the size, look and feel of the Riviera. Historic preservation is the top priority.  MSI General (the general contractor) presented renderings of what the Riviera would look like with white or brown trim on the windows and the response was mixed. The committee did some brainstorming and included the members of the public that came to the meeting. The final idea of mixing the two colors (alternating by levels the colors) so it wasn’t too overwhelmingly white and yet still gave, the Riviera a fresh new look, appeared to win that day. The possibility of having an off-white or cream color added to the options was also suggested.

During a special meeting on Monday night, discussion about alternating colors continued. All agreed on brown for the first level with white columns and trim on the second level followed with white windows on the top level. These colors would be carried around all sides of the Riviera. Everyone agreed that the Riviera needs updating while keeping its historic look. It will be interesting to see how the process plays out.

Window display winners:
The winners of the Lake Geneva Window Display competition have been announced. The theme was ‘Frosty’s Magical Christmas.’

The downtown businesses really stepped it up this holiday season, with an overwhelming number of participants from businesses and patrons in the window display competition. The event is a delightful addition to the holiday events in Lake Geneva, bringing the entire community together. As they did last year, students from Badger High School’s advanced marketing group helped with some of the window displays this year.

The winner for Social Media choice was Gallery 223 on Broad Street. Gallery 223’s window displays gave a very accurate depiction of the original Frosty the Snowman.
With hundreds of votes, the Community’s Choice went to CR Goodfind’s on Main Street. Mary at CR Goodfind’s always does a beautiful job on her window displays.
Best use of merchandise went to Gallery Matisse and Matisse Too in the Fancy Fair Mall on Main Street. These two stores share three window fronts where they collectively created magical displays.
The big winner for best use of theme and the best overall display went to Twelfth & Brown on Main Street. The snowman in the window was handmade by the owners, Ron and Sharon, and it was truly unique and magical. Congratulations to the winners and all the participants in this fun project. The community truly made this a magical event. Merry Christmas.
