The Bright Side

Relay for Life.
This Friday, June 21st, the Relay for Life of Walworth County will be held at the Walworth County Fair Grounds starting at 5:00 p.m. The event will kick off with an opening ceremony honoring anyone that’s been affected by cancer, and everyone that has made this year’s relay a success. When the relay starts they will move onto the Luminaria Ceremony during which everyone that’s been touched by cancer will be represented by a Luminaria. Each light will represent a life either taken by cancer, a survivor of cancer, or someone still fighting cancer. It gives people the opportunity to grieve and offers some comfort. After the relay, it’s time for the closing ceremony and is a time to commit to action and help fight for a world free of cancer. The event will also include a silent auction, scavenger hunt, and egg hunt. It’s an event the whole family can participate in while helping to support our local communities.

Brick & Mortar has been on the planning commission agenda for quite some time.
They wanted to raze or move their existing building in order to build a new bigger commercial building. Terence Pisano was willing to take on the task of moving the building to his current location on Broad St, but the cost was prohibitive and caused quite the uproar through Lake Geneva. Citizens were not happy about the moving or razing of the historical building so all talk of moving it was stopped. The building is remaining at its Geneva St location. Thomas and Kathy George appeared before the Plan Commission on Monday night and it seemed that everyone was genuinely happy that the building is not going to be moved or torn down, instead a new plan to alter the exterior was presented and passed unanimously. Glass enclosed porches will be added to upgrade the property and allow for a handicap entrance to the first floor and a private entrance for employees with access to the basement.  They will not be painting per the public’s request. It was noted that this was a great option to keep the building original while updating it at the same time. It seems to be the best of both worlds.

Mail Boat Tryouts

Mail Boat Tryouts Lake Geneva

Mail boat tryouts were a success with only one person falling into the lake. It will be fun watching these kids delivering the mail on the lake this summer!
