A new German festival is coming to the Walworth County Fairgrounds.
DAS (DAS stands for THE in English) Fest USA has announced that it will be at the fairgrounds from August 13th to 15th. The festival will lead into the Oktoberfest season and will celebrate German culture. The motto of DAS Fest USA is ‘One Festival. One Weekend. One Mission.’ The organizers explaining that the three-day event will focus on German-American history with the inclusion of multiple cultures. DAS Fest has agreed to a five-year commitment with the Walworth County Fairgrounds, to take place on the second weekend in August of each year. The festival will help support local charities and bring tourism to the area. The Elkhorn Area Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Walworth County will be co-hosting and helping to plan the event. Travel Wisconsin, Wisconsin’s largest tourism department, has given a JEM grant to DAS Fest, providing an additional $39,000 for marketing.

German entertainers and dance groups have already been secured for entertainment. Many restaurants and beverage vendors have committed to providing authentic German cuisine, desserts, and drinks. As visitors stroll down Stein Street they will find German beer and wine available for sampling, along with other local favorites. Visitors can also explore the indoor and outdoor Marktplatz (Market Square) and browse a variety of German apparel and specialty items. There will also be a carnival for children of all ages to enjoy and of course two days of dachshund racing. There is sure to be something for the entire family to enjoy and look forward to at the first DAS Fest.

 

Update on Vaccines: Walworth County Health & Human Services has moved up its vaccine schedule.
As of March 22, 2021, those people who are citizens of Walworth will be able to register for the vaccine that has co-morbidities as listed by the CDC ages 16 and up. All those 65 and older can be vaccinated along with first responders, medical personnel, food production staff, and those in education. Current appointments for the week fill up fast. Keep checking the website for cancellations, waitlists, and upcoming open dates. The current vaccine available is Moderna.
