SMALL JUNK

Featured Photo:
Drone shot looking down from three hundred feet at Flat Iron Park on Tuesday of this week.  Look at the red circles.  The latest violation to the park is the building of the “Bunk Pavilion”.  Mr. Brunk, the grand gentleman who gave Lake Geneva Brunk Industries, paid for it.  Too bad.  He’s a neat dude.  Look at the poor park.  almost forty percent is gone to development.  Only fifteen or sixteen trees left.
Where are the Jaycees supposed to hold their wonderful carnival next year?

Shoveling winter right out the door.
March is supposed to go out as a lamb, but it hasn’t so far.  Lack of Snow removal Downtown Lake Geneva WIThe streets and sidewalks were once again deluged with heavy snow last weekend.  The merchants once again went out and shoveled their snow-covered sidewalks onto the streets and the street department dutifully ignored them and left it there.  When is this nonsense going to stop and the city accept an obligation to remove snow from the merchants sidewalks.  The amount of money involved is not motivational enough for it to reach the level of one of those Lake Geneva Christmas wishes for using the TIF funds.  Only the small business people care.  Only the residents care.  Only the people care.

The street department of Lake Geneva is not tearing up Broad Street.  For those of you who wonder what those huge trucks are doing, parked in the middle of Broad, well they are replacing the liners in sewer pipes.  Think about that.  Think about the job you have.  There was once a short-lived reality show on television about the most awful jobs a person could have.  Sewer pipe liner changer was not on the show, but it ought to have been.  If you think your own job is lousy then you might want to consider the simple fact that jobs for sewer pipe liner changing is one that might be constantly available.  If you get the job then no, the city will not pay to launder your clothing, support after work drinking or your attorney in the divorce, but it ought to.

Bella Vista Suite-Condo Lake GenevaWhen does your roof leak?  Not when it’s warm and dry.  Roofs leak when heavy rains come sweeping in or heavy snow falls and then thaws up there on the roof.  Bella Vista is replacing its entire roof, following the results of the latest snow thaw.  If you see trucks and boxes stacked along Wrigley Drive as you leave the city heading south then you will be seeing the work-related stuff necessary to finish replacing the roof on the Bella Vista condominium building.

Drones are coming and they are going to stay and be used by nearly everyone in the near future.  This issue of the GSR has two drone shots in it.  Without the drone shots the staff of the GSR would not be able to quickly and cheaply figure out what is happening anywhere in the city from the air.  It takes about twenty minutes to go to the office, prepare the drone, drive to any point in the city and launch the thing.  Up it goes.  Steering and directions are performed by the operator looking at a monitor that “sees” what the drone camera views.  The drone automatically returns to the operator if its battery runs low or loses its direction.  Note the interesting views and clarity of the drone results in this issue.  An entire drone operation takes less than an hour and costs almost nothing  (the drone, camera, remote and batteries cost $2000.00).
